In stanza three it is talking about something talking to someone about the apple on the tree Is delicious. The guy would is talking about the apple because he wanted to kill him and that he would like it.

You have understood some of the ‘surface meanings’ in the poem – I wonder now if you could begin to look at the sustained metaphor? What might the tree represent or symbolise? Why?
Clue: Why does the speaker water it in fears and tears rather than with water from a tap?
